Southwest Airlines' Hawaii service has been in the works for quite some time. Finally, the wait is over.
After multiple delays, tickets for travel beginning October 18th are finally available for purchase on Southwest's website.
Southwest Hawaii service will begin with daily flights between Oakland (OAK) and Honolulu (HNL). Pricing begins at an absurd $49 each way.
Southwest will provide flights from Oakland to Maui beginning in October, with fares starting at $49. Flights from San Jose (SJC) will also begin on October 5th this spring.
Southwest had just gotten FAA certification for flights to Hawaii, so we knew sales would begin shortly. However, it is surprising that tickets were provided so quickly.
Remember that Southwest does not work with OTAs (online travel agents), therefore you must book directly through Southwest's website.
Flights to Hawaii start at $49, which is an unbelievable deal. Keep in mind that Southwest is the only surviving airline that offers free checked luggage (two free checked bags, at that).
